Purpose
To evaluate the clinical efficacy and refractive stability of femtosecond laser-assisted corneal incision in ICL implantation.
Setting
A single-center, high-volume tertiary refractive surgery center.Retrospective observational study of consecutive patients who underwent Ziemer Z8 femtosecond laser-assisted ICL surgery.
Methods
A total of 27 patients (53 eyes) undergoing Ziemer Z8 femtosecond laser-assisted ICL surgery were enrolled. All patients received standardized two-plane clear corneal incisions (preset width: 3.0 mm) created by Z8 femtosecond laser, combined with posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens implantation. Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), spherical equivalent (SEQ), and manifest refraction were recorded and evaluated at postoperative day 1, week 1, month 1, and month 3. Vector analysis was performed to calculate surgically induced astigmatism (SIA).
Results
At postoperative 3 month , UDVA of 20/20 or better was achieved in 100% (53/53) of eyes, and 77.36% (41/53) of eyes achieved UDVA of 20/16 or better. Refractive outcomes demonstrated that 83.02% (44/53) of eyes were within ±0.50 D of SEQ, and 94.34% (50/53) of eyes were within ±1.00 D of SEQ. The percentage of eyes with SEQ change >0.50 D between 1 month and 3 month was only 1.89%. At postoperative month 3, 73.58% (39/53) of eyes had astigmatism ≤0.50 D, and 100% (53/53) of eyes had astigmatism ≤1.00 D. The TIA was 1.00±0.65 D, SIA was 0.97±0.62 D, and CI was 0.90±0.21. No incision-related complications occurred during the follow-up period.
Conclusions
Ziemer Z8 femtosecond laser-assisted corneal incision for ICL implantation demonstrates favorable safety, efficacy, and refractive stability.
