Purpose

Comparative analysis of the clinical efficacy of EVO ICL V5 and Loong Crystal in correcting moderate to high myopia.

Setting

Posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) implantation is reversible and is suitable for patients with limited corneal conditions who cannot undergo corneal refractive surgery or moderate to high myopia.EVO ICL V5 and Loong Crystal are the latest large-optic-zone posterior chamber phakic intraocular lenses launched by STAAR Surgical(Switzerland) and Eyebright Medical Technology(China) respectively. In this paper,Comparative analysis of the clinical efficacy of these two intraocular lenses.

Methods

case-control study. A total of 60 patients with moderate to high myopia  who underwent PIOL surgery in our hospital were collected. They were divided into EVO ICL V5 group ( 60eyes ) and loong crystal group ( 60 eyes).Inclusion Criteria: (1) Age 21–45 years; (2) Myopia between -3.25 D and -9.00 D (inclusive);Exclusion Criteria:(1) unable to complete at least 3 months of follow-up;(2) History of intraocular or corneal surgery. Visual quality was assessed by investigating visual disturbances such as halos, glare, and starbursts using the QoV questionnaire.Visual acuity ,refractive status, vault and QoV questionnaire were examined 1 week, 1 month, 3 months after surgery.

Results

There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in baseline characteristics including spherical equivalent, intraocular pressure, age, pupil size and gender. No patients in either group experienced preoperative visual disturbances such as glare, halos, or starbursts. All eyes achieved uncorrected visual acuity equal to or better than preoperative corrected visual acuity in both group.11% of eyes in EVO ICL V5 Group experienced visual disturbances such as glare, halos, and starbursts, compared to 20% in  loong crystal Group(P < 0.05 ) at 3 months after Surgery.  The vault  was 496±134μm in the EVO ICL V5 group and
243±152μm in the loong crystal Group ( P < 0.05  ).

Conclusions

EVO ICL V5 showed a lower incidence of early postoperative visual disturbances such as glare, halos, and starbursts, with more optimal vault.
