Purpose
To quantitatively evaluate early refractive prediction error and vault distribution following Eyecryl Phakic and Eyecryl Phakic Toric IOL implantation.
Setting
Vista Eye Clinic, Malaysia.
Methods
Prospective analysis of 24 consecutive eyes implanted with Eyecryl Phakic or Eyecryl Phakic Toric IOLs. Expected postoperative spherical equivalent (SE) was calculated using the manufacturer’s algorithm. Achieved SE was recorded at 1 week and 1 month. Prediction error (PE = achieved − expected), mean absolute error (MAE), standard deviation (SD), and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated. Normality was assessed using Shapiro–Wilk testing. Vault was measured at 1 month and analyzed using descriptive and distribution statistics.
Results
At 1 week, mean PE was −0.24 ± 0.36 D (95% CI −0.39 to −0.09; p<0.05), indicating a small but statistically significant early myopic bias.
At 1 month, mean absolute error was 0.24 ± 0.19 D (95% CI 0.16–0.32 D), demonstrating high refractive precision. 91.7% of eyes were within ±0.50 D and 100% within ±1.00 D of intended refraction.
Mean vault at 1 month was 566.6 ± 182.6 µm (95% CI 489–644 µm; range 200–826 µm). Distribution did not significantly deviate from normality (Shapiro–Wilk p=0.076). The majority of eyes were within the accepted 250–750 µm safety window, with isolated low (200 µm) and high (826 µm) values without pathological clustering.
Conclusions
Eyecryl Phakic and Eyecryl Phakic Toric IOL implantation demonstrated statistically robust refractive predictability with minimal systematic bias and predominantly optimal vault distribution at 1 month.
