Purpose

Evaluating SMILE PRO Outcomes with Apex- and Cyclotorsion-Guided Centration in Myopic Astigmatism

Setting

Patient Demographics & Preoperative Data

(n=50 eyes)

Procedure: SMILE PRO for myopic astigmatism

Mean Age: 27 ± 4.2 years

Mean Corneal Thickness: 525.3 ± 21.8 µm

Preoperative Refractive Range:

Sphere: -1.5 to -6.0 D

Astigmatism: 1.5 to 3.5 D

Methods

Preoperative lenticule centration parameters were imported

to the laser treatment software using Pentacam and

IOLMaster 700.

The minimal shift between Pentacam and IOLMaster

relative the pupil center was selected.

 Performed under slit-lamp examination.

• A disposable sterile skin marker was used.

• A horizontal reference line and two corneal

reference points were placed.

• Points were positioned 2-3 mm from the

limbus.

Results

Follow-up Schedule: 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months

(Measures: Autorefraction, UCVA, MCVA)

1-Week Follow-up:

UCVA ≥ Preop MCVA: 98.3% of eyes

Mean Spherical Equivalent (SE): +0.28 ± 0.29 D

Mean Manifest Sphere: +0.30 ± 0.31 D

Mean Residual Astigmatism: +0.32 ± 0.24 D

Postoperative data

1-Month Follow-Up

Visual Recovery: 98.7% of eyes achieved UCVA ≥

Preoperative MCVA.

Mean Spherical Equivalent (SE): +0.18 ± 0.22 D

Mean Manifest Sphere: +0.20 ± 0.24 D

Mean Residual Astigmatism: +0.25 ± 0.20 D

3-Month Follow-Up

Visual Recovery: 98.9% of eyes achieved UCVA ≥

Preoperative MCVA.

Mean Spherical Equivalent (SE): +0.15 ± 0.20 D

Mean Manifest Sphere: +0.17 ± 0.22 D

Mean Residual Astigmatism: +0.22 ± 0.28 D

Conclusions

The SMILE PRO procedure with apex- and cyclotorsion-

guided centration achieved targeted visual outcomes with high

refractive accuracy at 3 months.

This dual-guidance approach demonstrated excellent efficacy

and safety for correcting myopia and myopic astigmatism.

Further prospective follow-up is ongoing to confirm long-

term stability
