Purpose
To analyse visual and biometric outcomes 1 month after SmartSight keratorefractive lenticule extraction (KLEx) using a new laser system.
Setting
Department of Ophthalmology, University Hospital Frankfurt,
Methods
In this case series, patients undergoing SmartSight keratorefractive lenticule extraction using a new laser system are being enrolled. Pre- and postoperative visual acuity, corneal biometric parameters, refraction, and spherical equivalent (SE) are evaluated 1 month after surgery.
Results
Preliminary analysis shows favourable refractive and visual outcomes at 1 month postoperatively. Preoperatively, the mean SE was −4.18 ± 1.77 D and the central corneal thickness was 553 ± 38.2 µm. At 1 month postoperatively, the mean uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) was −0.04 ± 0.19 logMAR and the corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) was −0.13 ± 0.09 logMAR, with a mean SE of −0.10 ± 0.15 D.
Conclusions
One month after surgery with the new laser system, early results indicate good visual outcomes with low residual refractive error. Patient recruitment is ongoing, and approximately 70 eyes with complete 1-month follow-up are expected to be available for final analysis by the time of the congress.
