Purpose
To observation changes in the anterior corneal surface Q-value following Ray Tracing-Guided FS-LASIK in myopic patients aged over 40 years.
Setting
This prospective observational case series included 26 patients (52 eyes; 9 males, 17 females) with a mean age of 44.23±3.88 (40 to 53) years old receiving Ray Tracing-Guided FS-LASIK for myopic correction at Beijing Intech Eye Hospital between January 2025 and January 2026. Preoperative mean spherical equivalent (SE) and cylinder were –4.58 ± 2.03D (–0.75 to –8.25D) and –1.01 ± 1.02D (–0.25 to –4.50D).
Methods
The postoperative follow-up period was 3 months. The distant and near visual acuity, refractive status, anterior surface Q value of the cornea, and high-order aberrations of the dominant and non-dominant eyes were observed, and a subjective visual quality questionnaire survey was conducted.
Results
At 3 months postoperatively, 100% of patients achieved a binocular UDVA of 20/20, and 84% reached 20/16, 63% of patients achieved a binocular UNVA of J1. The Q values of the dominant eye prior to the surgery and three months post - surgery were as follows: at 3mm (-0.16±0.10, -0.43±0.41), at 4mm (-0.13±0.16, -0.39±0.38), at 5mm (-0.14±0.13, -0.28±0.34), at 6mm (-0.15 ± 0.12, -0.07±0.29); the Q values ofthe non - dominant eye were as follows: at 3mm (-0.14±0.17, -0.24±0.56), at 4mm (-0.12± 0.12, -0.26±0.23), at 5mm (-0.16±0.11, -0.14±0.23), at 6mm (-0.16 ±0.10, -0.03±0.26). Both eyes exhibited a negative increase in comparison to the pre - surgery state, and there was no statistically significant difference between the two eyes.
Conclusions
Ray Tracing-Guided FS-LASIK can significantly improve the distant and near visual acuity of 40+ year-old myopic patients, with high patient satisfaction, and it was found that the corneal Q value increased toward to the negative direction.
