Purpose
To compare corneal densitometry post Femtosecond Laser Assisted Contoura versus Femtosecond Laser assisted Wavelight Plus LASIK
Setting
Private tertiary eye hospital, Thane, India
Methods
It’s a prospective study where patients who underwent refractive correction using uneventful femtosecond laser assisted Wavelight Plus InnovEyes (FWPI) LASIK and femtosecond laser assisted contoura LASIK (FC) operated by a single surgeon were included. Subjects with other refractive surgeries, surgical complications were excluded. Corneal densitometry values were measured using Sightmap pre and post surgery at 2 weeks. Sightmap measures corneal densitometry across anterior, central, posterior and total cornea at different locations. Two sample t test was used to compare corneal densitometry between the two types of LASIK.
Results
20 and 12 eyes had undergone refractive correction using FWPI and FC Lasik technique. The mean±SD age was 27.5±4.90 and 26.75±4.76 in FWPI and FC groups respectively. The pre surgical corneal densitometry values were matched in both groups (two sample t test, p>0.05). Post operative corneal densitometry values were found to be comparable in both the techniques at all locations across anterior, central, posterior and total corneal layers.
Conclusions
The Corneal densitometry was found to be comparable between FWPI and FC at short term post operative follow up however long term follow ups could provide more insight about corneal health.
