Primary and secondary visual functions must be correctly evaluated in patients attending the ophthalmological consultation, thus allowing a correct
diagnosis and its consequent best medical-surgical indication.

Setting

The evaluations are carried out in the ophthalmology office and the biomechanics and visual stimulation laboratory for training amateur and
professional athletes.

Report of case

An algorithm for evaluating best-corrected vision, taking into account refractive errors, ocular surface pathology,
and visual functions such as contrast sensitivity and ocular dominance, constitutes one of the fundamental parameters to consider
when determining the best treatment plan.

Conclusion/Take home message

Achieving optimal vision translates into a competitive advantage for athletes who perceive
this benefit in their athletic development.
