Purpose
To report long term results of the PreserFlo MicroShunt for the surgical treatment in open-angle glaucoma patients.
Setting
Retrospective data analysis of consecutive patients with uncontrolled, moderate and advanced open-angle glaucoma who underwent Preserflo MicroShunt implantation surgery with MMC (0.4 mg/ml), between August 2022 - February 2025.
Methods
Twenty-six eyes of 26 patients were included for analyses. Retrospective data analysis included visual acuity, biomicroscopy, changes in intraocular pressure (IOP) and changes in medication use. Postoperative complications and postoperative interventions were also reviewed.
Results
From 26 patients the majority (24) had moderate or advanced glaucoma. Preoperative mean IOP was 32.4 (23-56mmhg), 23 patients have IOP >30 mmHg. Mean number of IOP-lowering agents was–3.2.
After Preserflo MicroShunt implantation surgery at 1 and 12 months mean IOP was 12.2mmHg and 15.6mmHg respectively. Postoperative complications included early hypotony - 9 eyes, shallow anterior chamber - 13 eyes, transient hyphema - 6 eyes, postoperative uveitis - 1 eye. At 1 and 12 months number of patents required hypotensive one agent was 1 and 3, two agents - 1 and 5, more than 2 agents 0 and 2 respectively. Needling or surgical revision was performed in 4 eyes, 2 required further IOP lowering surgery.
Conclusions
Preserflo MicroShunt is an effective and safe long term option for the surgical treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma. It decreases the burden of number and use of antiglaucoma medications.
