Purpose
To compare the Tear Film Index test by the iTrace ( Tracey technology) to the clinical gold standard diagnosis for tear film stability.
Setting
Private Practice Batimore.
Methods
Prospective diagnosis accuracy study.
Inclusion criteria; adults >18 yo with healthy ocular surface and no history of ocular comorbidity that had on the same visit the TFI test, OSDI questionnaire and BUT test and corneal fluorescein stainning.
Exclusion criteria: any patients with symptoms or diagnosis of dry eye, any active ocular surface disease, history of corneal surgery, irregular cornea or severe ptosis that could compromise the Placido disc images.
Primary endpoints: success was determined as Sensitivity>80 % and Specificity >85% compared to the gold standard in detecting tear film unstability.
Results
A total of 60 patients and 104 eyes were included in the study. The Tear Film Inndex by the iTrace met the success primary endpoints of sensitivity >80 % and specificy >85% with an slight difference with the right and lett eyes but not stadistical signifcance betwee them.
Conclusions
Tear Film Index test by the Itrace is reliable and accurate objective test do diagnose tear film stabiliy in the normal eyes compared with the gold standard based in our results.
