Purpose

To assess the reliability and validity of the Thai version of the 6-item Ocular Surface Disease Index (T-OSDI-6) for screening dry eye disease in the Thai population.

Setting

Online-based survey, Thammasat University Hospital, Thailand

Methods

The original English OSDI-6 was translated into Thai through a structured process involving ophthalmologists and linguists, followed by focus group review. Content validity was evaluated by 12 bilingual experts, including corneal specialists, general ophthalmologists, general practitioners, ophthalmic healthcare personnel, and language experts. Item Objective Congruence (IOC), item-level Content Validity Index (I-CVI), and scale-level Content Validity Index (S-CVI) were calculated. A total of 287 participants completed the questionnaire. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient.

Results

IOC values ranged from 0.82 to 1.00 (mean 0.94), indicating strong agreement on item relevance. All items achieved an I-CVI of 1.00, with an overall S-CVI of 1.00, demonstrating excellent content validity. The T-OSDI-6 showed high internal consistency, with Cronbach’s alpha coefficients ranging from 0.836 to 0.855 (mean 0.842).

Conclusions

The T-OSDI-6 demonstrates excellent content validity and strong reliability. It is a concise and practical instrument suitable for screening and assessing dry eye disease in Thai clinical and research settings.
