Purpose
To investigate the outcomes induced by mechanical debridement and anterior surface normalization by wavefront-guided transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (CW-TPRK) in a patient with corneal central superficial fibrotic scar.
Setting
Veni Vidi Eye Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey
Methods
Mechanical debridement and anterior surface normalization by CW-TPRK was performed to a 52 years old male patient who previously had corneal central superficial fibrotic scar resulted from trauma occurred in early childhood, for normalization of aberrations. Refractive, topometric, pachymetric, abberometric and visual rehabilitation changes induced by the treatment were analyzed.
Results
The patient had operation in OD and early follow-up results were analyzed. Pre-and post-operative refractive errors were unreadable and +0.50 D consecutively. Average K at 3 mm was decreased from 75.56 D to 45.58 D. CCT was decreased from 634 microns to 613 microns. Coma and higher order aberrations at 6mm were decreased from 4.36, 6.55 microns to 0.35 and 0.59 microns consecutively. Corrected distant visual acuity increased from 0.4 to 1.0 Snellen lines.
Conclusions
Mechanical debridement and anterior surface normalization by CW-TPRK was safe and effective in correcting aberrations and refractive errors in a patient with irregular cornea resulting from central superficial fibrotic scar.
