Purpose
To evaluate the prevalence of floppy eyelid syndrome (FES) and keratoconus in patients diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.
Setting
Patients referred from the ENT department of Alexandria Main University Hospital.
Methods
Adults (18+) with a confirmed OSA diagnosis via in-laboratory polysomnography (the gold standard).Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) converted to decimal.Lid Assessment: Evaluation for FES using the vertical lid pull test (McNab method).Corneal Assessment: Screening for clinical signs of keratoconus.tKeratoconus is significantly associated with an increased risk of obstructive sleep apnea.
Results
Floppy Eyelid Syndrome (FES) & Keratoconus: There was a highly significant correlation (p < 0.0001). Among patients presenting with corneal signs of keratoconus (n=8), 100% also exhibited floppy eyelid syndrome.
Conclusions
Keratoconus is significantly associated with an increased risk of obstructive sleep apnea.
