Purpose
Currently available multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) often present limitations in terms of subjective visual quality and patient satisfaction. This study aims to assess the visual performance and patient-reported outcomes following implantation of the new LuxLife™ full range-of-vision IOL (Bausch + Lomb) in patients undergoing cataract surgery. The innovative, nondiffractive optical design of this lens is intended to enhance visual comfort while providing a continuous range of vision.
Setting
Preliminary single-center study at a tertiary ophthalmology institution.
Methods
This is a prospective, descriptive, single-center study. Cataract surgery with LuxLife IOL implantation was performed in 50 patients (90 eyes), aged 65–85 years. Inclusion criteria was an axial length of 22.5-24.5 mm, correctable corneal astigmatism, mesopic pupil diameter of 3–4 mm, and absence of significant ocular comorbidities. Only eyes achieving a postoperative spherical equivalent within ±0.50 D of the targeted refraction were included for analysis. Monocular and binocular UCVA and CDVA were evaluated at far, intermediate, and near distances at 1 week, 2 months, and 4–6 months postoperatively. PROMs were assessed using the Catquest-9SF questionnaire.
Results
Postoperatively at 1 week, 2 months, and 4–6 months, monocular and binocular UCVA and CDVA showed effective visual performance across far, intermediate, and near distances in LuxLife™ eyes. Catquest-9SF PROMs revealed high spectacle independence, minimal illumination dependence, strong satisfaction across distances, and low dysphotopsia incidence.
Conclusions
LuxLife™ IOL provides effective full-range vision with excellent objective and subjective outcomes in selected patients, warranting larger, longer-term comparative prospective studies.
