Purpose
Although early clinical experience and studies support the visual performance of the Clareon PanOptix intraocular lens (IOL), prospective real-world data specifically evaluating the newly introduced Clareon PanOptix Pro trifocal IOL, a next generation of Clareon PanOptix, remain limited. Evidence describing binocular visual acuity across distances, defocus performance and patient reported quality of vision outcomes following routine bilateral implantation is not yet available. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide the first prospective real-world evaluation of visual performance and patient reported outcomes three months after bilateral implantation.
Setting
Single centre prospective case series in routine cataract practice. Patients undergoing bilateral age-related cataract surgery with Clareon PanOptix Pro (including toric and non-toric designs) targeting emmetropia are enrolled. Eyes with significant ocular comorbidity, prior corneal refractive surgery, macular disease, glaucoma, significant dry eye, or surgical complications are excluded.
Methods
Prospective, single arm descriptive study of patients undergoing standard bilateral phacoemulsification with Clareon PanOptix Pro implantation. At three months, binocular corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) was the primary endpoint. Secondary outcomes included monocular and binocular corrected and uncorrected visual acuity at distance (6 m), intermediate (~66 cm) and near (~40 cm), binocular defocus curve (+1.00 to –3.00 D), contrast sensitivity (photopic and mesopic), and patient reported outcomes using the Intraocular Lens Satisfaction (IOLSAT) and the Quality of Vision and Visual Disturbances (QUVID) questionnaires.
Results
At the time of abstract submission, recruitment is ongoing and a 3-month follow up is in progress. Data analysis has not yet been performed. Final visual acuity, defocus, contrast sensitivity and patient reported outcomes will be presented at the meeting.
Conclusions
This study will provide the first prospective real-world clinical dataset evaluating binocular visual performance and patient reported outcomes following bilateral implantation of the Clareon PanOptix Pro IOL. The findings will contribute important early evidence to guide clinical adoption of this new trifocal IOL.
