Purpose
To evaluate in a standardised manner the visual results after implantation of MaxVision multifocal implants (Ophthalmo Pro, St-Ingbert, Germany) and DUET trifocal sulcoflex implants (Rayner, Worthing, England).
Setting
Retrospective single-centre study including 30 patients who underwent bilateral cataract surgery and were implanted with a MaxVision implant (15 patients) or a DUET procedure (Rayone 600C or 610T + sulcoflex trifocal) with a 3-month post-operative assessment
Methods
a 3-month post-operative assessment according to ESCRS recommended standards: standardised measurement of visual acuity (Qvision Vision C ) without correction and with distance correction (3.5 m corrected to infinity), intermediate vision (66 cm) and near vision (40 cm), monocular and binocular defocus curves with distance correction from +1.5D to -3.5D, photopic and mesopic contrast sensitivity (Qvision CSF application) and online satisfaction questionnaire
Results
Results in progress
Preliminary results for Maxvision (10 patients): average AVLSC of 0.02 +/- 0.1 Logmar, average AVISC of 0.06 +/- 0.12 Logmar, average AVPSC of 0.12 +/- 0.12 Logmar
Comparisons: visual acuity, depth of field and defocus profile, contrast vision in photopic and mesopic conditions, satisfaction.
Conclusions
Conclusion currently being analysed:
Good efficacy, safety and satisfaction for both implants
Defocus profile according to ESCRS classification to be confirmed: more of a ‘smooth transition full range of vision’ type for the Sulcoflex trifocal and a profile closer to a ‘continuous full range of vision’ implant for the Maxvision.
