Purpose
To analyze the Visual outcomes and safety profile of patients implanted bilaterally with an Indian Triofocal Iol.
Setting
A retrospective study consucted in a Tertiary Eye care hospital in southern India.
Methods
The Study included patients with senile cataract who had undergone uneventful cataract surgery with bilateral implantation of an Indian Trifocal (Triphobic-AS6TD) and Indian Trifocal toric IOL(Triphobic toric - AS6TDT).Optical biometry was done using Tomey OA-2000 (manufactured by Tomey Corporation/Tomey GmbH. Barrett universal II formula was used to determine the IOL power for implantation in all patients. Post operative visual assessment was done for patients at 1 and 6 weeks and their visual outcomes analysed in terms of UDVA(uncorrected distance visual acquity), BCDVA (best corrected distance visual acquity), UCNVA (uncorrected near visual acquity), Contrast sensitivity, Patient satisfaction and dependency on glasses were evaluated.
Results
74 eyes of 37 patients were included in the study. 36 eyes had Triphopic IOL and 38 eyes had Triphobic toric iol implantation. UCDVA at 6 weeks- 0.02±0.04 LogMar and BCDVA at 6 weeks - 0.01±0.03 LogMar. Almost none of the patients required glasses for any activity. Glare and haloes were experienced by 3 patients (8%), however it was not bothersome to prevent them from carrying out their regular activities.
Conclusions
Visual outcomes of the Triphobic IOL in this study is quite encouraging and reinforces the fact that doing a good pre-op evaluation and right selection of patients can yield excellent results .
