Purpose

To evaluate the clinical outcomes of premium intraocular lens (IOL) technology by BVI in a retrospective, single-center study and compare the results to a large, multicenter prospective study.

Setting

Retrospective analysis of single centre compared to a multicentre prospective analysis.

Methods

A retrospective analysis of 51 eyes that underwent cataract surgery with implantation of premium IOLs from BVI (including trifocal, EDOF, and toric models) at The View Hospital between 2023 and 2025.  The follow-up period was 1-6 months. The primary outcomes were uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), spherical equivalent (SE), and cylinder. Intermediate and near visual acuities were also assessed. These results were compared to the Daya et al. multicenter study.

Results

81.48% of eyes were within ±0.50D of spherical equivalent, which is comparable to the 79.63% reported in the Daya et al. study. For cylinder, 71.43% of our patients had a cylinder of ≤0.50D, which is also comparable to the 72.22% in the Daya et al. study.

The mean UDVA was 0.89 (decimal), and the mean CDVA was 0.94 (decimal), with 85.19% of eyes achieving a UDVA of ≥20/25.

The premium IOLs from BVI demonstrated excellent performance across all visual ranges, providing patients with high-quality distance, intermediate, and near vision.

The clinical outcomes at The View Hospital were comparable to the published standards of the Daya et al. study, with refractive predictability exceeding themulticenter study results for SE within ±0.50D.

Conclusions

The premium IOL technology by BVI provides excellent visual outcomes, with results from a single-center retrospective study being comparable to a large multicenter prospective study. The choice of IOL should be tailored to the patient’s lifestyle and visual needs to optimize postoperative satisfaction.
