Purpose
To evaluate the clinical performance of the new TECNIS Odyssey™ intraocular lens (IOL).
Setting
Fernández-Vega Ophthalmological Institute.
Methods
The clinical study included manifest refraction, uncorrected (UDVA) and corrected (CDVA) distance visual acuities, distance-corrected intermediate (DCIVA) and near visual acuity (DCNVA), binocular photopic and mesopic contrast sensitivity (CS) and binocular defocus curve. Postoperative evaluation was performed 3 months after surgery.
Results
The clinical study involved 122 eyes. The mean postoperative monocular UDVA and CDVA were 0.04 ± 0.05 and 0.01 ± 0.02 logMAR, respectively. All eyes achieved a monocular UDVA of 0.2 logMAR or better and a monocular CDVA of 0.1 logMAR or better. The defocus curve showed a range from +0.50 to -2.5D, in which the mean visual acuity was 0.1 logMAR or better. The binocular distance CS was within normal limits. No intraoperative or postoperative complications related to lens implantation were observed. All patients were satisfied or very satisfied with the procedure.
Conclusions
The implantation of the new TECNIS OdysseyTM IOL, provided a satisfactory range of visual quality from distance to near, in excellent agreement with the optical performance of full depth-of-field intraocular lenses.
