Purpose

Purpose The Clareon Panoptix IOL combines an advanced biomaterial, precision edge, and a proven trifocal optic. Whilst the AcrySof platform is known to have good rotational stability, the Clareon PanOptix toric (CPO toric) IOL has not been investigated in situ. This study will assess the 3-month rotational stability of the CPO Toric IOL.

Setting

Setting Private refractive surgery in NSW, Australia. (Wollonong Refractive Laser Eye Institute WRLEI).

Methods

Methods CPO Toric was implanted in 40 eyes from 22 patients undergoing bilateral routine phacoemulsification. Manifest refraction, and uncorrected vision at distance (UDVA), intermediate (UIVA) and near at 40 cm (N-40) and 33 cm (N-33) were measured at 12-weeks postoperatively. Subjective vision was assessed using the Near Acuity Visual Questionnaire (NAVQ), stereoacuity and contrast sensitivity (CS). Toric alignment was measured using dilated slit-lamp examination at 1 hour, 1 week, 4-6 weeks and 12 weeks following implantation. A further subset of 21 eyes had rotational stability assessed using iTrace).

Results

Results Average monocular uncorrected VA was 0.06±0.09, 0.1±0.14, 0.13±0.11 and 0.14±0.11 LogMAR when measured at 6 m, 60 cm, 40 cm and 33 cm respectively. Average postoperative spherical equivalent was -0.15±0.28 D. NAVQ score increased significantly following surgery, and CS and stereoacuity were well maintained. Mean real rotation at 3 months was 1.3°, with 85% of eyes reporting ≤5° of rotation. There was less apparent mean real rotation after 3 months when measured via slit-lamp examination (-1.09°

Conclusions

Conclusions Good refractive and visual outcomes were achieved with CPO toric IOL, which remained stable in situ from 1 week following implantation.
