Purpose
To compare visual outcomes and optical quality following bilateral implantation of two enhanced monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs), ISOPURE SERENITY IOL and TECNIS Eyhance IOL.
Setting
SNU Eye Clinic, Seoul, Republic of Korea
Methods
This retrospective study included 60 eyes of 30 patients who underwent bilateral cataract surgery with implantation of either the ISOPURE SERENITY IOL or the TECNIS Eyhance IOL at SNU Eye Clinic between August and December 2025. Monocular uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity, monocular uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (66 cm), monocular uncorrected near visual acuity (40 cm), and manifest refraction were measured preoperatively and postoperatively. Binocular defocus curves, contrast sensitivity, spectacle independence, patient satisfaction, and visual symptoms were evaluated at 1 and 3 months postoperatively.
Results
15 patients (30 eyes) were included in each group. Postoperative monocular visual acuities at distance, intermediate, and near, as well as refractive outcomes, were comparable between the ISOPURE SERENITY and TECNIS Eyhance groups (all p > 0.05). Binocular defocus curves demonstrated similar depth-of-focus profiles in both groups. No significant differences were observed in contrast sensitivity before and after surgery. Spectacle independence and patient satisfaction were comparable between groups at all distances. The incidence and severity of visual symptoms were also similar, with no statistically significant differences detected.
Conclusions
Bilateral implantation of the ISOPURE SERENITY IOL and the TECNIS Eyhance IOL resulted in comparable visual and refractive outcomes, with similar depth-of-focus, contrast sensitivity, spectacle independence, and visual symptoms. Both enhanced monofocal IOLs provided effective visual performance with minimal photic phenomena.
