Purpose
Evaluate the optical and visual performance after implantation of Intraocular Lens with Enhanced Depth of Focus (Hoya Vivinex Impress) ®
Setting

Methods
A cohort, prospective, longitudinal, interventional and descriptive study. We included 15 cataract patients, both gender ≥ 40 years old, keratometric values less than 1D. Underwent phacoemulsification and a Intraocular Lens with Enhanced Depth of Focus was implanted (Hoya Vivinex Impress) ® by a single surgeon (ESD). Patients were selected according: age, gender and occupation, a complete ophthalmologic evaluation and further studies were performed: optical biometry (LENSTAR)®, specular microscopy, contrast sensitivity (CVS-1000E VectorVisionTM®), wave-front aberration (Zywave, B&L). Statistical analysis was performed using nonparametric analysis (Levene's test and ANOVA). A significance level of p ≤ 0.05 was established.
Results
At 6 months post-operation, 30 eyes of 15 patients were evaluated. Of the sample, 69.23% were female and the average age was 59,06±11,12 years. Visual acuity were assessed in LogMar, the uncorrected distance vision (0.10 ± 0.16), uncorrected intermediate vision (0.15 ± 0.08) and uncorrected near vision (0.20 ± 0.05) were significantly improved (One Way ANOVA p=0.00). Contrast sensitivity evaluated in spatial frequency ROW (CPD), improved in all patients (ANOVA p = 0.00). The low-order aberrations (defocus, were unaffected in both photopic (ANOVA p = 0.181) and scotopic conditions (ANOVA p = 0.366). The higher-order aberrations such as coma were small and were determined by the alteration of the tear film.
Conclusions
There is an increase in contrast sensitivity in patients with intraocular lens Hoya Vivinex Impress. Cataract surgery with Hoya Vivinex Impress IOL implantation improved distance and intermediate vision following cataract surgery also, the patients have a functional near vision as well as a high satisfaction.
