My Experience With The Enhanced Monofocal Premium Intra Ocular Lens

The VIVINEX Impress IOL and the Eyhance IOL are enhanced Monofocal IOL’s 

20 patients each were implanted with the above 2 IOl s with enhanced mono focal technology for suitable patients wanting relative spectacle freedom at the intermediate and near distance at a lower cost than EDOV with no visual photic symptoms associated with rings and zones to judge the overall efficacy 

Single centre, single surgeon, retrospective analysis .

Centurion phaco machine ,Lenstar Biometry ( 2 technician)

No access to Verion or CallistoPentacam or Wavefront Aberrometer

No high tech Image Guided Cataract suite

20 bilateral implantations each IOL

Range of IOL power +13 to 28D

KPatient selection as per monofocal IOL

Relative contraindication for EDOV/ Trifocals with early ocular pathology

Financial constraints for EDOV/ Trifocals

High myopes ( < 16D) can be considered

Low Astigmatism upto 1 D incision placed on steep axis as all were non toric IOL’s

Routine surgery selected for study

Post operative refraction done 1 week later

In Eyhance 8 eyes had near MINIMUM add +1.5D ( tall patients 5’9” with longer arm span)

23 eyes had aided near and intermediate vision N6 with +1.75D

8 eyes had +2D add ( height less than 5’7” low arm span )

1 patient needed +2.25 D ( had ARMD)

Vivinex Aided Vision for Near / Intermediate

14/40 eyes need +1D to +1.25 D  for N6/N8 ( tall patients with long arm span )

20/40 eyes needed +1.5D to read N6/N8 for near/ intermediate @ 40cm -55 cm

6/40 eyes needed +1.75 D to read N6/N8 for near/ intermediate ( shorter height patients / smaller arm span)

In a general eye clinic with near basic equipment the surgeon has hand picked a careful limited section of patients who meet all the selection criteria for Trifocal/ EDOV IOL s but chose enhanced mono focal IOL or were counselled for the same by the surgeon ( in case of early ocular pathology/ habitual night drivers, high powered professionals, type A hypercritical personality, accepting spectacle dependence if need be)

Eyhance IOL 70% of eyes  needed minimum +1.5D to +1.75D for near/ intermediate N6/N8 vision

Vivinex Impress better with 30% eyes needing only +1D-1.25 D for near and intermediate vision
