Purpose
Advanced Monofocal IOLs are part of the ophthalmic surgeon’s armamentarium.
Many advanced Monofocal IOLs with different optical principles are available.
The purpose of this study is to compare outcomes for distance and near vision between two advanced Monofocal IOLs with different optical principles.
We also try to define selection criteria for advanced Monofocal IOLs.
Setting
Single surgeon private practice setup Mumbai,India.
Methods
We included data from 82 eyes of 54 patients in the study.
Of these, 38 (46%) were right eye.
All eye underwent Microincision phacoemulsification with impantation of advance monofocal IOL, all cases were uneventful.
The Eyhance IOL was implanted in 44 eyes (54%) and the RAYNER IOL in the remaining 38 eyes (46%).
The mean distance visual acuity (BCDVA) improved from 0.9+0.5 logMAR (20/200 Snellen’s equivalent) to 0.1+0.2
logMAR units (20/25 Snellen’s equivalent) four weeks post-surgery (p<0.001). Similarly, the near visual acuity improved
from 1.0+0.12 logMAR (N24 Snellen’s equivalent) preop to 0.6+0.2 logMAR (N12 6/60 Snellen’s equivalent) at four
weeks (p<0.001).

Conclusions
Despite similar preoperative characteristics, eyes implanted with the Rayner IOL demonstrate significantly
superior distance and near vision compared to those with the Eyhance IOL, with an improvement of one line in each case.
