Purpose

Within the scope of the study, the postoperative stability of previously implanted CE-certified extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) intraocular lenses of the type PureSee (manufactured by Johnson & Johnson, USA) was evaluated. Primary outcome variables of the investigation were anterior chamber depth (ACD), intraocular lens (IOL) tilt and IOL decentration, as these parameters are known to influence postoperative visual quality.

Setting

The investigations were conducted between September 2025 and January 2026 at the Department of Opthalmology at the Kepler University Hospital in Linz, Austria.

Methods

A total of 52 patients aged ≥18 years were included in this prospective study following bilateral implantation of the IOL. Eyes with previous ocular surgery, combined surgical procedures, or pathological findings associated with an increased risk of capsular bag instability were excluded. Optical biometry using the IOLMaster 700 (Zeiss, Germany) and swept-source optical coherence tomography using the CASIA2 (TOMEY, Japan) were performed preoperatively and at a minimum of 4 weeks postoperatively to assess ACD, IOL tilt and IOL decentration. The objective of the study was to evaluate postoperative capsular bag stability of the IOL and its impact on refractive outcomes.

Results

The mean preoperative ACD of right eyes was 2.81 mm and increased to a mean postoperative value of 4.31 mm. In left eyes, the mean ACD was 2.81 mm and increased to a mean postoperative value of 4.34 mm. The average preoperative lens tilt for right eyes was 4.99°, compared to a postoperative mean of 4.91°, respectively. In left eyes, the average preoperative lens tilt was 5.79°, compared to a postoperative mean of 5.37°. Preoperative decentration measured 0.15 mm in right eyes and increased to a mean postoperative value of 0.20 mm. In left eyes, preoperative decentration measured 0.15 mm and increased to a mean postoperative value of 0.26 mm

Conclusions

Given the low degree of postoperative decentration and tilt, the stability of the intraocular lens was demonstrated.
