Purpose
The aim was to evaluate the visual acuity at different distances, visual function and vision-related quality of life in patients who received two inverted meniscus refractive Simultaneous Vision IOLs, EDF ArtIOLs®40 and FVR ArtIOLs®70 (ArtIOLs, Voptica SL, Murcia, Spain). The inverted meniscus design improves the peripheral optics performance and the induction of low (ArtIOLs®40), and moderate (ArtIOLs®70) negative spherical aberration increases the depth of focus.
Setting
Oftalvist Murcia, Spain
Methods
49 patients were implanted bilaterally with ArtIOLs®40 and ArtIOLs®70, aiming to provide full range of vision. Postoperative spherical equivalent (SE), along with monocular and binocular best-corrected (BCVA) and uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), were evaluated at distance, intermediate (66 cm), and near (40 cm). Measurements were taken using SLOAN charts under mesopic conditions. Vision-related quality of life was evaluated in 15 patients with the CatQuest-9SF Questionnaire.
Results
Monocular BCVA with ArtIOLs®40 was −0.08 at far, 0.13 at intermediate, and 0.38 logMAR at near, while for ArtIOLs®70 was −0.08, 0.03 and 0.23 logMAR, respectively. Binocular BCVA reached −0.08, 0.01, and 0.19 logMAR. SE was -0.18±0.24D for ArtIOLs®40 and -0.60±0.24D for ArtIOLs®70. Monocular UCVA for ArtIOLs®40 was −0.05 at far, 0.10 at intermediate, and 0.36 logMAR at near, while for ArtIOLs®70 it was 0.02, −0.01, and 0.13 logMAR at the same distances. Binocular UCVA was 0.10 logMAR or better across all distances. Regarding patient-reported outcomes, 80% of patients experienced no difficulties in daily activities, and 100% reported being very or fairly satisfied with their visual quality.
Conclusions
Bilateral implantation of ArtIOLs®40 (EDF) and ArtIOLs®70 (FVR) provided excellent visual acuity throughout the full range of vision, from distance to near. These outcomes translated into high levels of patient-reported satisfaction and favorable perceived quality of vision. These findings indicate ArtIOLs® are a reliable solution for patients seeking full range of vision with high quality of visual performance.
