Purpose
To report the visual and refractive outcomes of TECNIS PureSee™/PureSee™ toric (a newer partial depth of field extended (Partial DOFi-Ex)) intraocular lens (IOL) implanted bilaterally following refractive lensectomy.
Setting
Setting: Optegra Eye Health Care, UK
Methods
This prospective study evaluated 62 eyes (31 patients) undergoing bilateral PureSee implantation (68% toric IOLs), targeting emmetropia in all cases. Postoperative monocular and binocular logMAR uncorrected distance (UDVA),intermediate (UIVA), and near (UNVA) visual acuities, distance corrected intermediate (DCIVA) and near (DCNVA) visual acuities, and refractive accuracy were evaluated. Eyes with a reason for a guarded visual prognosis and/or less than three months follow up were excluded from analysis. Patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) were assessed using Catquest-9SF.
Results
Mean age was 72±6.80 years, 34% female, and mean follow up was 103±14 days. There were no reported operative complications. Mean monocular UDVA was 0.04±0.08, mean monocular UIVA was 0.19±0.09 and monocular UNVA was 0.38±0.16. Mean binocular UDVA was -0.02±0.06 logMAR binocular UIVA was 0.14±0.09 and binocular UNVA was 0.31±0.14. Binocular DCIVA and DCNVA were 0.12±0.10 and 0.31±0.15 respectively. Refractive accuracy was 100% of eyes within ±1.00D and 84% within ±0.50D of predicted post-operative spherical equivalent. 85% of eyes had ≤ 0.50D of residual astigmatism postoperatively. All respondents (N=20) reported improved postoperative scores in Catquest-9SF.
Conclusions
PureSee demonstrated excellent visual outcomes and refractive accuracy, for the metrics assessed. Patient-reported outcome measures using Catquest-9SF confirmed significant gains in functional vision and vision-related quality of life. Longer term evaluation of clinical and patient reported outcomes data are underway and will be reported in due course.
