Purpose
To evaluate the 'VERION-guided MIOL Visual Axis Centration Technology' for patients with greater angle alpha.
We used VERION system to guide visual axis-centered CCC, and centre the mIOL on the visual axis, to correct the eccentricity caused by angle alpha. By monitoring postoperative outcomes and the position of the mIOL, evaluate the value of this technology.
Setting
Photic phenomena, such as glare, halos, are the main complaints in patients with multifocal intraocular lens (mIOL). Angle alpha, which is defined as the intersection of the visual axis with the optic axis, has been found to be correlated with these complaints.
VERION system is a collection of reference, planning units and digital marker to assist surgeon. It can detect the visual axis, project the design map ,and auto register the eye intraoperatively.
Methods
Selecting 24 eyes of cataract patients with angle alpha >0.3mm. All patients underwent full preoperative ophthalmological examinations. Under the guidance of the VERION system, phacoemulsification and MIOL implantation were performed with a continuous circular capsulorhexis centered on the visual axis, adjusting the MIOL position to align its optical center with the visual axis. Follow-ups were conducted 7 days and 3 months postop, measuring uncorrected distance and near visual acuity , the angle Alpha , MIOL relative position (the distance from the MIOL center to the visual axis), and Modulation Transfer Function curve(MTF), using iTrace. A quality of vision (QoV) questionnaire were evaluated 3 months. Followed by statistical analysis.
Results
The mean UDVA was -0.03±0.12logMAR,the mean UNVA was 0.12±0.13LogMAR 6 months postoperatively .
There was a statistically significant difference between the MIOL position 7 days postoperatively and the preoperative Alpha angle (P < 0.05), with the MIOL position being significantly smaller than the Alpha angle; there was no statistically significant difference between the MIOL position 7 days postoperatively and that at 6 months postoperatively (P > 0.05). Despite some optical disturbance phenomena,QoA show a high level of overall satisfaction.
Conclusions
The application of VERION navigation to guide CCC and MIOL positioning centered on the visual axis can compensate for the eccentricity of the mIOL caused by greater angle alpha, and has good long-term stability, offering effective clinical value
