Purpose
To investigate the effect of femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery on third-level visual function
Setting
Lixiang Eye Hospital of Suzhou University
Methods
Thirty-seven eyes of 33 patients with cataract who underwent femtosecond laser-assisted phacoemulsification from January 1, 2016 to August 31, 2016 were selected as the femtosecond laser group, including 17 males (19 eyes). Sixteen patients (18 eyes) were female, and 28 patients (32 eyes) who underwent conventional phacoemulsification were selected as the traditional group, including 15 males (17 eyes) and 13 females (15 eyes). BCVA≤0.1 in 19 eyes and ≤ 0.3 in all patients. BCVA ≤ 0.1 in 24 eyes of conventional group, BCVA ≤ 0.3 in all patients. The preoperative and postoperative contrast sensitivity, wavefront aberration, higher-order aberration and spherical aberration were recorded.
Results
No matter with or without glare, the postoperative contrast sensitivity of the two groups changed significantly compared with that before surgery, but the change between the two groups was not statistically significant. There was no significant difference in wavefront aberrations between the two groups on the first day after surgery, but there was significant difference in higher-order aberrations at 1 week and 1 month after surgery. In particular, the primary spherical aberration is an important factor affecting the visual quality, and the performance of the femtosecond group is better than that of the traditional group.
Conclusions
The visual quality of femtosecond assisted cataract surgery is better than that of traditional cataract surgery.
