Purpose
To highlight the clinical features, treatment decisions and challenges faced in the management of a patient with Axenfeld Reiger Syndrome.
Setting
Wapda Teaching Hospital
Report of case
A 44-year-old female patient presented with complaints of progressively decreasing vision. The slit-lamp microscopic examination of the anterior segment showed polycoria, corectopia and nuclear cataract and bilateral well formed blebs. Patient had undergone bilateral trabeculectomy. Phacoemulsification in combination with intraocular lens implantation on her left eye was performed followed by the right eye.
Conclusion/Take home message
Phacoemulsification in eyes with axenfeld-rieger syndrome is technically difficult because of anterior chamber and angle anomalies. Furthermore the
challenges of small eye phaco are also encountered. Our case aims to highlight these challenges.
