Purpose

To investigate the correlation of quantitative optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) indices with blood examination outcomes in patients with myopia.

Setting

This study included a cross-sectional observational design, encompassing 70 eyes from 70 patients who had undergone imaging procedures.

Methods

Swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) was performed to quantify indices including FAAC (flow area of AngioChoroid), VDIR (vessel density of inner retina), etc. Peripheral venous blood was collected to detect five categories of indicators: complete blood count, coagulation, lipid metabolism, liver and kidney function and electrolytes, and immunology. The association between OCTA indexes and blood test results was analyzed.

Results

Analysis of OCTA indices and blood test results revealed a negative correlation (r≈-0.5) between FAAC, and both activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and DD4 (D-dimer), and a positive correlation (r≈0.5) between VDIR (vessel density of inner retina) and apolipoprotein B (APOB). A positive correlation (r≈0.5) was found between SE and TC (thickness of choroid, ChT).

Conclusions

Correlations between FAAC and both APTT and DD4, and between VDIR and APOB were found in myopic patients, suggesting that these OCTA indices are more influenced by systemic factors. Additionally, in myopic patients, TC decreased with increasing myopia degree and weakly correlated with hematological indices, which is less dependent on systemic factors in the clinical evaluation of myopia.
