Purpose
To evaluate rotational stability, visual performance, and reading speed outcomes three months after bilateral implantation of the Asqelio™ Trifocal Toric intraocular lens (IOL).
Setting
Department of Ophthalmology, University Medical Center Rostock.
Methods
This prospective, observational post-marketing study included cataract patients undergoing bilateral implantation of the Asqelio™ Trifocal Toric IOL. Only patients completing the 3-month follow-up according to protocol were analyzed, and also included visits 1 week and 1 month postop. Analysis included uncorrected and corrected distance (UDVA, CDVA), intermediate (60 cm) and near (40 cm) visual acuities (UIVA, UNVA), binocular defocus curve, rotational stability assessed by slit-lamp examination, and binocular reading speed measured using the Radner Reading Chart (words per minute, wpm). Outcomes were compared across postoperative visits when available.
Results
Thirteen patients completed the 3-month follow-up. Mean binocular UDVA was 0.08±0.11 logMAR and CDVA 0.03±0.06 logMAR. Mean binocular UIVA and UNVA were 0.15±0.12 and 0.19±0.14 logMAR, respectively. The binocular defocus curve showed visual acuity ≤0.2 logMAR from 0.00 D to approximately -3.0 D. Mean binocular reading speeds were 146±23 wpm (0.9/1.0), 139±22 wpm (0.8/0.9) and 131±24 wpm (0.7/0.8) at three months. Mean absolute IOL rotation was 1.4±1.1°, with 100% of lenses ≤5° and no repositioning required.
Conclusions
Three months after surgery, the Asqelio™ Trifocal Toric IOL demonstrated excellent rotational stability, good binocular visual acuity at distance, intermediate and near, a continuous binocular defocus curve and fluent binocular reading performance. Improvements between visits suggest neuroadaptation and visual stabilization over time. These results support the safety and clinical effectiveness of this IOL in cataract patients requiring correction of astigmatism and presbyopia.
