Purpose
To report the refractive and visual outcomes of PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision in a large population of bilaterally emmetropic patients with presbyopia.
Setting
Private Practice Academic Unit Reinstein Vision, London Vision Clinic, EuroEyes Group, UK
Methods
Inclusion: bilateral emmetropic manifest refraction (sphere ±0.50 D; cylinder ≤0.75 D), preop CDVA ≥20/20 both eyes, suitable for LASIK. Consecutive PRESBYOND treatments with MEL 80/90 excimer laser and VisuMax femtosecond laser (Carl Zeiss Meditec) from Dec 2012-Aug 2023. Targets: plano in distance eye and -0.50 to -1.75 D in near eye per PRESBYOND +1.50 D Acceptance Test. Outcomes analysed at 12 months or last visit if retreatment earlier; those without 12-month data were excluded as lost to follow-up.
Results
Of 2901 patients screened, 167 patients (334 eyes) met criteria. Mean age 54±5 years (44-66). Mean attempted SEQ +0.81±0.80 D (-0.50 to +2.25); mean cylinder treated −0.27±0.27 D (−0.75 to +0.75). Preop CDVA ≥20/20 in 100%. With 11.08% enhancement rate, binocular UDVA was ≥20/20 in 96% and ≥20/25 in 99%; binocular UNVA was J2 or better in 93% and J5 or better in 99%. Postop SEQ vs target -0.02±0.33 D (-1.13 to +1.00), within ±0.50 D in 92% and ±1.00 D in 99% of eyes. One-line CDVA loss occurred in 15%; one eye (0.3%) was 20/25+2 (CDVA <20/20); no eye lost 2 lines. Contrast sensitivity improved at 3, 6, 12 and 18 cpd.
Conclusions
PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision LASIK produced excellent binocular distance and near vision in emmetropic presbyopes. Safety was demonstrated by maintained CDVA and improved contrast sensitivity.
