Purpose

To compare the clinical outcomes of three presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses (IOLs) (enhanced monofocal: Eyhance, extended depth of focus (EDOF): PureSee, and multifocal IOL: Synergy) after corneal refractive surgery.

Setting

Bucheon St. Mary's Hospital, The Catholic University of Korea

Methods

90 eyes (45 patients; multifocal IOL: Synergy– group 1, n= 30, enhanced monofocal: Eyhance– group 2, n= 30, EDOF: PureSee - group 3, n= 30) who underwent cataract surgery were enrolled. Uncorrected and corrected near (UNVA, CNVA), intermediate (UIVA, CIVA), and distant (UDVA, CDVA) visual acuity, manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE), and satisfaction score were evaluated before and after surgery.

Results

The postoperative UCVA, CDVA, UIVA, UNVA, and MRSE of the three groups were better than the preoperative data, respectively (P<0.05). There was no statistical difference in postoperative UCVA, CDVA, UIVA, or MRSE among the three groups (P > 0.05). The postoperative UNVA of group 1 (0.03 ± 0.01 logMAR) was significantly better than those of groups 2 and 3 (0.33 ± 0.01, 0.25 ± 0.01, respectively) (P<0.05). And the postoperative UNVA of group 3 was also significantly better than that of group 2 (P<0.05). Mean absolute error (D) of Barrett True-K was smaller than that of Haigis-L (44%) formula among three groups, respectively (P<0.05).

Conclusions

The multifocal IOL showed better uncorrected near vision compared with the EDOF and the enhanced monofocal IOL after corneal refractive surgery. Barrett True-K was more accurate  than Haigis-L formula after corneal refractive surgery.
