Purpose
To evaluate the visual and functional performance of the TECNIS Odyssey (DRN00V or toric DRTnnn) intraocular lens (IOL), a diffractive full depth-of-field (FULL-DOFi) IOL, following bilateral implantation in cataract patients. Clinical data on this lens are currently limited; this study aims to address this knowledge gap.
Setting
Single-centre ambispective observational cohort study at Amphia hospital, Department of Ophthalmology, Breda, the Netherlands (December 2025 – August 2026).
Methods
Thirty adult cataract patients with implantation of the TECNIS Odyssey IOL have been invited for a single study visit 3-6 months postoperatively; 2 patients have been measured; full data collection by August '26. Outcomes: spherical equivalent refraction (SEQ), pupil size, uncorrected/corrected distance, intermediate, and near visual acuity (UDVA/CDVA/UIVA/DCIVA/UNVA/DCNVA at 66 and 40 cm), defocus and contrast sensitivity curves (monocular and binocular). Reading acuity (RA), mean reading speed (MEAN-RS) and Critical Print Size (CPS), Catquest-9SF NL, PRSIQ-NL, global spectacle independence questionnaire (GSIQ-NL), quality of vision (QoV-NL), and Net Promoter Score (NPS; likelihood to recommend surgery and IOL to others) were assessed.
Results
Age: 65 ± 7 years; all females; photopic/scotopic pupil sizes (right, left): 3.3/5.3 - 3.4/5.2 mm. SEQ (right, left): -0.06±0.27 and 0.06±0.27 D. Monocular UDVA/CDVA (right, left): -0.01±0.04, -0.05±0.01 / -0.12±0.06, -0.11±0.01 logMAR. Binocular UDVA, CDVA, UIVA, DCIVA, UNVA, and DCNVA: -0.11±0.07, -0.13±0.04, 0.11±0.13, 0.04±0.14, 0.00±0.03, -0.01±0.04 logMAR. Contrast sensitivity within normal phakic limits. Defocus curves showed a steep FULL-DOFi profile. RA: 0.33, 0.13, 0.25, 0.20 logRAD; MEAN-RS: 199, 186, 192, and 194 wpm; CPS 0.53, 0.33, 0.45, and 0.40 logRAD (intermediate without/with addition, near without/with addition). Patients needed and wore spectacles none to some of the time. Dysphotopsias were mild to moderate. NPS 100%.
Conclusions
Bilateral implantation of the TECNIS Odyssey FULL-DOFi IOL yielded excellent visual acuity at all distances, a FULL-DOFi defocus profile, high spectacle independence, and an acceptable dysphotopsia profile. These independent results will support shared decision-making in IOL selection for cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange.
