Purpose
LuxLife (Bausch + Lomb) is a novel refractive intraocular lens (IOL) designed to provide a continuous full range of vision (FRoV) without relying on diffractive optics, thereby avoiding diffractive‑type visual disturbances. This study assessed real-world clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction in patients who received bilateral implantation of the LuxLife IOL.
Setting
This was a prospective, non-randomised, single-site study conducted at a single site in Germany (MVZ Augenlaserzentrum). The surgeries were performed by one surgeon with significant experience in surgical vision correction.
Methods
LuxLife IOLs were implanted into 50 eyes of 25 patients who underwent consecutive bilateral surgery, with the second eye operated on one week after the first, from September 2025 to January 2026. Assessments included detailed subjective refraction and measurements of uncorrected visual acuity at 1 week and 6 weeks postoperatively. Monocular and binocular defocus curves were constructed for distance, intermediate, and near visual performance. Dysphotopsias, spectacle independence, and patient satisfaction were also assessed.
Results
Median monocular distance, intermediate, and near visual acuity (decimal) at 1 week was 0.8, 0.9, and 0.9, and at 6 weeks was 1.0, 1.0, and 0.9, respectively. Monocular defocus curve was −3 D at 0.2 logMAR. At 1 week and 6 weeks, 92% and 96% of patients reported being spectacle free, respectively. Two patients were provided –0.5 D correction at 1 week, and one patient continued to use for visual comfort –0.5 D correction for driving at 6 weeks, not required for routine. Two patients reported some bothersome optical phenomena by 6 weeks, most commonly contrast reduction in low light, but did not express overall dissatisfaction. All patients were satisfied with level of spectacle independence achieved.
Conclusions
The results from this study demonstrate the LuxLife IOL provides functional near and intermediate visual acuity by 1 week, with distance acuity improving by approximately two Snellen lines by 6 weeks, resulting in stable vision at all distances. Visual acuity measurements showed low variability, indicating consistent and predictable outcomes. In this cohort, patients reported minimal dysphotopsias compared with diffractive IOLs and high levels of functional spectacle independence, alongside high overall satisfaction. These findings support the lens as a potential option for patients seeking high visual quality at all distances.
