Purpose
To present the long-term outcomes, fundal photos and macular OCT images of a woman with a Cionni capsule tension segment in the vitreous cavity after complicated cataract surgery.
Setting
Mater Misericordiae University Hospital
Report of case
A 68-year-old woman underwent complicated cataract surgery, which ultimately resulted in a posteriorly dislocated capsule tension segment. She was referred to our hospital vitreo-retinal service for consideration of surgical removal. She opted not to have any surgical intervention as she was asymptomatic. Remarkably, even after 4 years, she remains asymptomatic with no visual symptoms, macular oedema or trauma to the retina. To the best of our knowledge this is the first reported case of a posteriorly displaced Cionni tension segment.
Conclusion / Take home message
Here we report the case of a posteriorly displaced Cionni tension segment that has not caused any visual symptoms, macular oedema or retinal trauma over a 3-year period.
