Purpose

The Democritus Digital Visual Acuity Test - Visual Curves Test (DDIVAT-VC) is a smart-TV-based application designed to assess visual curves for presbyopia evaluation and postoperative assessment after premium intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. This study aimed to evaluate the agreement between the traditional defocus curve test and the DDIVAT-VC application.

Setting

Department of Ophthalmology, University Hospital of Alexandroupolis, Greece

Methods

This prospective, comparative study included randomly selected pseudophakic patients from the hospital's Outpatient Clinic. Monocular visual acuity (VA) was first measured using the ETDRS chart with trial lenses ranging from -4.00 D to plano for 4, 5, 6, or 9 focal point combinations. The same VA measurements were then obtained using DDIVAT-VC with identical focal points and trial lenses. Paired t-tests, Wilcoxon signed-rank tests, and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were used to compare results between the two methods.

Results

All patients successfully completed both tests. No statistically significant differences were found between the ETDRS visual curve test and the DDIVAT-VC application at any focal point (p > 0.05). The ICCs demonstrated strong agreement across most measurement pairs (ICCs > 0.7).

Conclusions

DDIVAT-VC showed high agreement with the gold standard defocus curve test. Its accuracy and reliability make it a promising digital tool for postoperative presbyopia correction assessment.
