Purpose
The aim of this study was to compare the visual performance of two refractive extended depth of focus intraocular lenses (IOL), namely the ANV6 (Acunex Vario, Teleon Surgical) with the ZEN00V (Tecnis Puresee, Johnson and Johnson) intra-individually.
Setting
Vienna Institute for Research in Ocular Surgery (VIROS), Hanusch Hospital, Vienna, Austria
Methods
This study was designed as a prospective, randomized, patient- and examiner-masked, single-center study. In total 80 eyes of 40 patients will be included into this study. Target refraction is set for emmetropia in both eyes, whereas first predicted minus IOL (Barret TK formula) will be chosen. Monocular uncorrected (UCDVA) and best corrected distance visual acuity (BCDVA) at 4 meters, will be tested preoperatively, at 1 week and at 4-6 months postoperatively. Aberrometry, Halo and Glare, Quality of vision questionnaire (QOV), contrast sensitivity, testing for stereopsis, defocus curve, monocular Uncorrected (UIVA) and corrected intermediate (DCIVA) at 66cm and near visual acuity (UNVA/DCNVA) at 40cm, will be evaluated at 4-6 months.
Results
So far, 31 patients have been included (67%female/33%male), with a mean age of 73±10 years (43;86). BCDVA improved from 0.18±0.16 LogMAR (-0.08;0.50) to -0.01±0.08 LogMAR (-0.20;0.12) and 0.19±0.21 LogMAR (-0.10;0.70) to -0.02±0.10 LogMAR (-0.20;0.30) at 1 weeks and a spherical equivalent (SE) of -0.12±0.21 D (-0.63;0.25) and -0.32±0.37 D (-0.88;0.50) for the ZEN00V and ANV6, respectively. Twelve participants completed the last follow-up visit and showed 0.00±0.08 LogMAR (-0.18;0.12) and -0.04±0.07 LogMAR (-0.18;0.06) for BCDVA and 0.17±0.09 LogMAR (0.10;0.40) and 0.12±0.09 LogMAR (0.02;0.30) for DCIVA, in the ZEN00V and ANV6 groups, respectively.
Conclusions
Preliminary data in 31 patients showed good visual performance at the first follow up visit. More conclusive, comparative data from the last follow-up visit will be presented at the congress.
