Purpose

This paper presents the clinical applications and surgical technique associated with a newly developed capsular tension segment (CTS) specifically designed for cataract surgery. The innovative Angled-CTS is unique among existing CTS devices due to its angled eyelet, which effectively prevents tilting of the intraocular lens both during and following the surgical procedure. Additionally, its reduced diameter enhances handling and simplifies the insertion process into the eye.

Setting

Santa Casa BH

Methods

We provide detailed descriptions of case and surgical techniques for the implantation of this new CTS, particularly for patients with zonular weakness.

Results

It was observed after a series of cases that this new device, due to the angulation of the eyelet, allowed the intraocular lens to be centered appropriately without tilt and with a stable flange, without erosion

Conclusions

The introduction of this new capsular tension segment represents a significant leap forward in the surgical management of cataracts in patients with capsular instability or zonular fragility. Its innovative features—angulated design to prevent IOL tilt and a smaller diameter for enhanced insertion—position it as a valuable tool in the ophthalmologist's arsenal. Future studies and clinical trials will be essential to validate its long-term efficacy and safety, but the preliminary findings suggest that it holds great promise for improving surgical outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for patients with these challenging ocular conditions
