Purpose

To evaluate the use of ROCK inhibitors in patients with Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD)

Setting

Pubmed search for all published studies that investigate the use of ROCK inhibitors for the prevention or treatment of corneal edema in patients with FECD.

Methods

Pubmed search using the words 'ROCK inhibitors', 'cornea guttata', 'Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy'

Results

There are several studies that prove beneficial role of ROCK inhibitors in therapy and prevention of corneal edema by inhibiting apoptosis, improving adhesion and proliferation of corneal endothelial cells in patients with FECD.

Conclusions

ROCK inhibitors are promising new pharmacologic therapy that could have great clinical significance in the prevention and treatment of corneal edema in patients with Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy.
