Purpose
To observe and analyse the visual outcomes of cataract and
refractive lensectomy surgery after implantation of the trifocal intraocular lens
(IOL) At Elana 841P (Zeiss).
Setting
Nowadays, we have multiple options for intraocular lenses. We conducted this study with the aim of offering the best option to our patients
Methods
This is a retrospective observational study that includes 22 eyes of
11 patients that underwent refractive lensectomy extraction (RLE) or cataract
surgery with implantation of the trifocal IOL At Elana 841P (Zeiss) in
Admiravision centres (Barcelona) in 2024. Visual and refractive outcomes and
patient satisfaction are recorded at 1 month post-surgery.
Results
The mean far corrected visual acuity improved from 0.91 before the
surgery to 0.99 1 month after the surgery. 91% of eyes had an uncorrected far
visual acuity of 0.9 or better. All cases had a distance corrected near visual
acuity of 0.9 and only 23% needed some addition for near. 3.5% of cases had a
spherical equivalent greater than ± 0.75D. Almost all patients were satisfied with
their results in terms of dysphotopsia symptoms.
Conclusions
Elana trifocal IOL is a good option for cataract surgery and
refractive lensectomy. Elana provided excellent visual outcomes and high
refractive predictability at all distances leading to high levels of spectacle
independence.
