Purpose

TO INVESTIGATE THE CLINICAL RESULTS OBTAINED FROM SUBJECTS BILATERALLY IMPLANTED WITH SPHERICAL AND TORIC RAYNER RAYONE GALAXY® MULTIFOCAL INTRAOCULAR LENSES (IOLS).

Setting

THE STUDY POPULATION IS COMPOSED OF 30 EYES (15 PATIENTS) OPERATED WITH RAYONE GALAXY® LENSES IN A PERIOD OF 1 MONTHS.

VISUAL ACUITY AND BLUR CURVE ARE MONITORED WITH THE EDTRS OPTOTYPE AT 4 METERS AND ILLUMINATION OF 85CD / M². CONTRAST SENSITIVITY USING TABLE CSV-1000HGT. AT A DISTANCE OF 2.5 METERS (8 FEET) WITH SPATIAL FREQUENCIES OF 3, 6, 12 AND 18 CYCLES / DEGREE.

Methods

THIS PROSPECTIVE DATA COLLECTION INCLUDES A TOTAL OF 30 EYES FROM 15 PATIENTS WHO HAVE BEEN IMPLANTED WITH LIO RAYNER RAYONE GALAXY®. THE DATA IS COLLECTED BEFORE THE OPERATION AND 1 MONTH AFTER THE OPERATION. THE EXAMS INCLUDED MANIFEST REFRACTION, AS WELL AS MONOCULAR AND BINOCULAR VISUAL ACUITY DATA ON UNCORRECTED DISTANT VISUAL ACUITY, UNCORRECTED INTERMEDIATE VISUAL ACUITY  AND UNCORRECTED NEAR VISUAL ACUITY. THE EVALUATION OF CORRECTED VISUAL ACUITY WAS PERFORMED MONOCULARLY AND BINOCULARLY. IN ADDITION, THE RESULTS OF THE MONOCULAR, BINOCULAR BLUR CURVE AND CONTRAST SENSITIVITY WERE OBTAINED. TO EVALUATE THE SUBJECTIVE RESULTS, PATIENTS WERE ASKED ABOUT PHOTOTIC PHENOMENA, DEPENDENCE ON GLASSES AND GENERAL SATISFACTION.

Results

THE MEAN UNCORRECTED DISTANCE VISUAL ACUITY (UDVA) MONOCULAR AND BINOCULAR WERE 0.00 ± 0.10 AND -0.10 ± 0.10 LOGMAR, RESPECTIVELY. MONOCULAR AND BINOCULAR INTERMEDIATE UNCORRECTED VISUAL ACUITY (UIVA) WERE 0.01 ± 0.02 AND 0.00 ± 0.01 LOGMAR, RESPECTIVELY. THE CORRESPONDING MONOCULAR AND BINOCULAR PROXIMAL UNCORRECTED VISUAL ACUITY (UNVA) RESULTS WERE 0.10 ± 0.10 AND 0.05 ± 0.10 LOGMAR, RESPECTIVELY. THE BLUR RANGE IS BETWEEN -2.5 D AND +0.5 D AND THE CONTRAST SENSITIVITY RESULTS ARE WITHIN NORMAL VALUES FOR THIS AGE GROUP. ALL IOLS WERE STABLE AND CENTERED WITH NO ROTATION OR CENTERING OBSERVED. NO PATIENT REPORTED INTOLERABLE DYSPHOTOPSY AND 100% WERE SATISFIED OR VERY SATISFIED WITH THEIR VISION.

Conclusions

CLINICAL RESULTS FROM 15 PATIENTS IMPLANTED BILATERALLY WITH RAYNER RAYONE GALAXY® INTRAOCULAR LENS SHOW SIMULTANEOUS REDUCTION OF REFRACTIVE CYLINDER AND RESTORATION OF VISUAL ACUITY OVER A FULL RANGE OF FAR TO NEAR DISTANCE. THE HIGH VISUAL QUALITY IS CONFIRMED WITH CONTRAST SENSITIVITY RESULTS CLOSE TO THE RESULTS OBTAINED WITH SINGLE VISION LENSES AND NO PATIENT REPORTS HALO OR GLARE. IN OUR OPINION, THE RAYNER RAYONE GALAXY® INTRAOCULAR LENS, IS A GOOD CHOICE FOR PATIENTS WITH PRE-EXISTING CORNEAL ASTIGMATISM WHO REQUIRE GOOD VISUAL ACUITY FOR FAR, INTERMEDIATE, AND NEAR DISTANCES WITHOUT SACRIFICING VISUAL QUALITY. AS THIS IS ONGOING DATA COLLECTION, THE MOST RECENT RESULTS WILL BE PRESENTED WITH MORE IMPLANTED EYES.
