Purpose
Comparison of Visual Acuity and Dysphotopsia Phenomena between a Spiral
Intraocular Lens (RayOne Galaxy) and a Trifocal Intraocular Lens (RayOne Trifocal)
Setting
The aim of this study is to compare the visual performance and dysphotopsia phenomena
associated with two types of intraocular lenses (IOLs): the RayOne Galaxy spiral IOL and a
trifocal IOL. The study involved patients implanted with these lenses at centers in Rennes and
Toulon and evaluated several parameters, including visual acuity at different distances, patient
satisfaction, and the presence and intensity of dysphotopsia.
Methods
Multicenter prospective study (Rennes, Toulon). 60 eyes of patients with comparable
preoperative characteristics (average age, sex, axial length) were divided into two groups.
Comparison of performance between each group.
Results
The preliminary results seem to show notable differences between the two types of lenses, particularly in
terms of intermediate visual acuity and nighttime vision quality. Dysphotopsia phenomena
were also evaluated, focusing on their frequency, type (e.g., Halo, glare, starburst), and their
impact on the patients’ daily lives.
Conclusions
This study provides a useful comparative perspective for
surgeons in choosing the IOL based on the specific visual needs of patients and the risks
associated with dysphotopsia phenomena.
