Purpose
To compare the Visual Outcomes and Rotational Stability of Optiflex Trio Trifocal Toric(OFT) and AT Lisa Trifocal Toric 939MP IOL(ALT).
Setting
The Prospective non-randomised comparative study was conducted by a Single Surgeon at Aastha Hospital,
Anand, Gujarat, India between Nov 22 to May 24.
Methods
A study was conducted on 19 eyes (7 eyes OFT & 12 eyes ALT, IOLs) of 12 patients with preoperative cylinder greater than 1 D who underwent cataract surgery from Nov 22 to May 24. The surgeries were performed by a single surgeon at a single center in India. The study assessed the one-month postoperative uncorrected visual acuity for distance UCVA (3 m), intermediate UICA (80 cm and 60 cm), near UNCA (40 cm), residual astigmatism (RA), rotational stability (RS) of IOL, contrast sensitivity, and included a questionnaire on quality of vision, optical phenomena, and spectacle independence.
Results
At 1 month postop, The visual acuity of OFT & ALT (UCVA) at 3M was 0.08±0.14 log MAR and 0.07±0.09 log MAR, p=0.44; UICA(80 cm):0.10 ± 0.10 log MAR vs. 0.14 ± 0.11 log MAR, p=0.21; UICA(60 cm): 0.09 ± 0.15 log MAR vs. 0.13 ± 0.10 log MAR p=0.24; UNCA(40 cm): 0.16 ± 0.14 log MAR vs. 0.21 ± 0.15 log MAR p=0.24 and the postoperative Residual Astigmatism was 0.00 ± 0.00 log MAR vs. 0.44 ± 1.18 log MAR p= 0.11. On 1stday post-op, the IOL rotation in OFT and ALT were 4.57 ± 5.71 and 13.33 ± 24.27; p=0.13. Both IOL results regarding contrast sensitivity, night vision and glare and halos were insignificant.
Conclusions
Following cataract surgery in individuals with astigmatism who desire spectacle independence, both the OFT and ALT intraocular lenses (IOLs) have demonstrated positive visual outcomes for far, intermediate, and near distances. The OFT IOL has shown superior rotational stability and astigmatism correction compared to the ALT IOL.
