Purpose

To evaluate the clinical outcomes of a new purely refractive full range of field continuous IOL with spiral platform

Setting

Vithas Madrid-Alicante University Hospital

Methods

Fifty-nine eyes of 30 patients with mean age 65,65 ± 9.14 years old, (range 49-79) were included in this study. All subjects underwent uneventful cataract surgery with bilateral implantation of the RayOne GALAXY™ IOL (Rayner). Visual, refractive, defocus curve, mesopic and photopic contrast sensitivity, halometry and patient’s satisfaction were evaluated at 3 months after surgery.

Results

Mean postoperative binocular logMAR uncorrected distance, intermediate (66 cm) and near (40 cm) visual acuity were 0.00 ± 0.13, -0.03 ± 0.14, 0.09 ± 0.12 respectively, while binocular LogMAR corrected visual acuity at three distances were - 0.05 ± 0.07, -0.07 ± 0.09 and 0.10 ± 0.12. Postoperative spherical equivalent was within ±0.50 D in 94.9% of eyes. Mean distance-corrected visual acuity was better than 0.20 logMAR for defocus between +0.50 and -2.50 D. Mesopic and phtotopic contrast sensitivity remained within normal values throughout the follow-up period. A total of 93,3 of patients were very satisfied or satisfied with the distance, intermediate and near vision achieved.

Conclusions

The purely refractive full range of field continuous IOL RayOne GALAXY™ provides good levels of distance, intermediate and near vision, with a smooth and continuous binocular defocus curve and stable defocus pattern from first month on.
