Purpose

To compare the effect on postoperative corneal edema after cataract surgery using ventri and peristaltic based phacoemuslification

Setting

We compared two group of patients who had cataract surgery. One group of 20 patients who had cataract surgery using venturi based phacoemulsification and the other group of 20 patients who had cataract surgery using peristaltic based phacoemulsification.

Methods

The prospective study conducted on Eye clinic Sarajevo. We compared central corneal thickness (CCT) on optical coherence tomography (OCT) between two groups of patients after cataract surgery, on the first postoperative day.

Results

There were no statistically significant differences between groups regarding age, cataract density, and phaco time. There was no statistically significance differences in values of CCT after cataract surgery between two group of patients. Althought we found that in the group of patients who underwent cataract surgery using peristaltic based phacoemulsification have slightly increased values of CCT.

Conclusions

A good clinical outcome of cataract surgery depends on the combination of surgeon’s skills and the machine settings.
