Purpose
This study aims to analyse the age distribution of patients undergoing surgical intervention for cataracts over the past decade. By examining trends and changes in demographics, we seek to identify patterns that may influence surgical outcomes and healthcare planning.
Setting
The review is conducted at the 2nd Department of Ophthalmology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, located in the General Hospital Papageorgiou, focusing on patient demographics, surgical techniques, and postoperative outcomes.
Methods
A retrospective analysis was conducted using patient records from the last ten years (2014-2024). Data were collected on age, gender, surgical techniques employed, and postoperative recovery. Statistical analyses were performed to identify trends in age distribution and any significant changes in surgical practices.
Results
Findings indicate a notable shift in the age distribution of cataract surgery patients, with an increasing number of younger patients undergoing surgery.
Conclusions
The increasing prevalence of cataract surgery among younger individuals underscores the need for adaptive healthcare strategies. This trend highlights the importance of ongoing research to optimize surgical techniques and improve patient outcomes across varying age groups.
