Purpose

To present a case of ICL implantation in a patient with  accomadative esotropia

Setting

Batı Göz Hospital, Istanbul- TURKEY

Report of case

A 19-year-old man with bilateral hyperopic astigmatism and refractive accommodative esotropia was referred to our clinic. The patient was orthophoric while wearing spectacles, but had an esotropia of 30 prism dioptres at near and distance vision without spectacles. After full correction of the hypermetropic error, which was determined by cycloplegic refraction, the visual acuity of the right eye was  20/20 with +6,00 -0,50@ 34  correction and visual acuity of the left eye was found to be 20/20 with +5,50 -0,75@ 13 correction. After ICL implantation surgery, the patient achieved orthophoria and emmetropia.

Conclusion/Take home message

ICL implantation to treat accommodative esotropia in adults can be a an option. A  larger scale study is necessary to decide safety and efficacy of ICL implantation in this young accomodative esotropia population.
