Purpose
To assess the 3M visual outcomes of patients bilaterally implanted with a new hydrophobic trifocal intraocular lens (AT ELANA 841P).
Setting
Dept. of Ophthalmology, University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany
Precision Vision, Rheine, Germany
Oftalvist, Alicante, Spain
Methods
Patients were bilaterally implanted with the trifocal IOL following cataract or refractive lens exchange surgery. Monocular/binocular uncorrected and distance-corrected visual acuities (VA) for distance (UDVA, CDVA, 4m), intermediate (66 and 80 cm), and near (40 cm) were assessed at 1M and 3M, as well as mean refractive spherical equivalent (MRSE), percentage of eyes with a prediction error (PE) within ± 0.25 D, defocus curve, patient-reported satisfaction and spectacle independence.
Results
Forty-six patients were included in this 3M interim analysis. Mean monocular CDVA (primary endpoint) was -0.02 ± 0.10 logMAR at 1M and -0.03 ± 0.09 logMAR at 3M. Mean binocular UDVA was -0.02 ± 0.09 logMAR at 1M and -0.03 ± 0.11 logMAR at 3M. All intermediate and near VAs were < 0.2 logMAR at 3M. At 3M, mean MRSE was 0.18 ± 0.38 D and 41 of 92 eyes (44.57%) were within ±0.25 D of PE. Photopic binocular defocus curve at 3M showed that VA was ≤ 0.10 logMAR between -2.5 D and 0.5 D, and ≤ 0.01 logMAR between -0.5 and 0.5 D. Finally, 86.6% of the patients were satisfied with their vision at 3M following surgery, and spectacle independence was 93.3 %.
Conclusions
Results of this interim analysis showed that AT ELANA 841P can provide good distance, intermediate and near visual acuities, with high rates of patient satisfaction and spectacle independence.
